LIC Fear III: Visiting Death is a fine art exhibition curated by Tessa Kennedy & Jason Artiga. The approaching twilight of our year has brought us to resurrect LIC-A’s third annual LIC Fear: a fine art exhibition at The Plaxall Gallery curated by Tessa Kennedy and Jason Artiga. This year we are focusing on the subject of death to celebrate the changing of the seasons and the stages of life & death.

Mark’s statement on behalf of Nancy Purnell.

My mother, Nancy Purnell, passed away from lung cancer in October 2018. She was an artist and art teacher up until the end of her life.

Albers’ color theories forever changed the way she saw the world. Color was her inspiration, her core, as she was one of the most vibrant people I’ve ever known. She painted what she saw while simplifying the inner and outer forms. She painted shapes and colors trying to give a seemingly visual movement in a relationship that makes each element come alive.

With this triptych, Organic Journey I, II & III, she turned her eye inward to what was happening from the cancer that took her life. She met death head on with her vivid unflinching vision. She completed these in March of last year and we lost her six months later on October 17, 2018. – Mark Purnell
